Wish Families
No matter what the situation or who the person, it is always difficult to see someone suffer from illness. This suffering is even more difficult to witness when it involves a child who is so innocent and pure. It makes one long to help, to make it all better. This feeling is amplified when the child is your own. You know you will do anything you can to help make it better, but sometimes you can only do so much.
Our daughter, Sheynah, was born three months premature. Because of some severe complications, it took almost six months for her to come home from the hospital. Shortly after finally being able to bring her home, we were informed that she had a rare heart disease called Pulmonary Vein Stenosis and would only have a month to a year to live. It has been a blessing to watch her continue to battle her illness and make many big steps to living a normal life. She has progressed to the point where she can live without constantly being connected to oxygen tubes and monitors. She is four now and loves life. Her determination to make everything around her beautiful brings inexpressible joy to our family. Although her health is good right now, the condition remains. We constantly push away the worst thoughts, praying that the days will turn to months and the months turn to years.
Our journey with the Make-A-Wish Foundation was one of the greatest moments in our lives! It enabled us to spend valuable time with Sheynah in a place like no other Disney World. Without this wonderful organization, we would have never been able to create such memories. These are things that we will always remember and smile aboutãseeing her smile ear to ear while hugging Minnie's leg and shaking Mickey's hand, and seeing Pluto across the way, running after him to get his autograph and a hug. These are the kinds of opportunities that we were able to gain, and rarely a day goes by when we donêt think about them.
Sheynah was also given several special opportunities while we were at Sea World. The dolphin trainer put on a special little show just for her! She was able to pet the dolphins and feed them little fishes as they splashed and squeaked at her. Her smiles will forever shine in our hearts! She was so happy, and this was all because of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Sheynah is doing well right now, and we are thankful for every day we have with her. She is a light in our life, and we love her more than words can describe. We are so thankful for the Make-A-Wish Foundation for the memories we were given during that wonderful week. We understand that the Foundation could not provide such opportunities if it were not for the generous donations of individuals and corporations, and we encourage you to join them by contributing your time, resources, or funding. The memories you will give young people like Sheynah will live forever, and like ours, their families will be grateful beyond measure.
Sincerely,

Hello. We are a Make-A-Wish family who are so thankful for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri for giving us a most memorable time with our son in Phoenix, Arizona in early November 2003. Rocky passed away on January 24, 2004. He had neuroblastoma (cancer). We have so many memories of our time together because Rocky's wish came true. He got to see a NASCAR race, meet his favorite driver, fly on a plane, and so much more during the wonderful time you gave us together. Rocky was five years old. You're forever in our hearts. Thank you so much for what you all did and what you stand for.
Sincerely,
Rocky's family, Liberty, Missouri
