Adopt-A-Wish

What is it?

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Missouri is committed to ensuring that it never has to decline a qualified wish nor limit the scope of a child's imagination for his or her wish due to lack of funds. Through the generosity of our supporters, we have never turned away a medically-eligible child.

Wish funding requires substantial financial commitments. Make-A-Wish of Missouri covers all costs associated with a wish, including the wish item and/or transportation, food, lodging, and admission fees for the entire family, as well as gift enhancements. The average cost per wish is approximately $5,000.

The Adopt-A-Wish program was created in order to better serve our objectives, by raising the funds required to grant a wish. The program allows individuals, corporations, schools, community groups, and organizations the opportunity to sponsor a child's wish and share in the magic of helping his or her wish come true.

Adopt-A-Wish contributors may choose a child's wish to adopt from a current listing of wishes that are waiting to be granted. Approximately 80 wishes are pending at any given time. Do you want to sponsor a child that is in your area? Or that has a particular medical condition? Or that has a unique wish? By viewing our list of pending wishes, you have the opportunity to hand-pick your Wish Kid!

Below are examples of wishes and their estimated costs. By selecting a type of wish to fulfill from the following four categories, you can sponsor the wish of a specific child and help make his or her wish come true:

$2,000 a wish to own a computer or go on a shopping spree
$3,500 a wish to meet or be someone
$5,000 a wish to go to Disney World theme parks
$6,000 a wish to travel to other U.S. destinations

How Can I Help?

You have the ability to make a difference in the lives of children in Missouri whoa re battling life-threatening medical conditions. Levels of contribution fall into the following two categories:

Wish Sponsors underwrite the full amount of a child's wish and are considered the exclusive sponsor.

Wish Partners underwrite a significant portion of a child's wish. Their funding is coupled with another donor's contribution in order to fulfill the child's ultimate wish.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation partners your funds with an Adopt-A-Wish child. 100% of your donation stays with the Missouri chapter. Upon wish completion, both Wish Sponsors and Wish Partners will receive a special Adopt-A-Wish gift, as well as recognition in our quarterly newsletter. All Adopt-A-Wish contributors will also receive the joy of knowing they have made a child's long-time dream come true.

Adopt-A-Wish gives you the power to change a life. Right now more than 291 children in our chapter's area medically qualify for a wish. By raising the average value of a wish, not only do you have the chance to make a child's life better, you get to share the story and pictures of the child whose wish you made possible.
